rug hunting

As we get more settled into our (not-so-new-anymore) abode, I'm finding myself craving a nice rug for the living room. I'm already envisioning cozy evenings curled up on the floor in front of the fireplace reading and watching movies on the projector. Only two - make that 3 problems with that equation - we only lit the fireplace once last winter (well, we moved in February), the projector is currently on the fritz, and there is no rug. Hey, its my daydream, no one said it needed to be rooted in reality!!

So, I took to the nets to gather some inspiration for the floors.

I've had my eye on this rug for quite some time. I especially fell in love when I saw the black/white goodness going on in this room.

But a certain man wasn't feeling it.

Perusing IKEA for some more inspiration, I came across this new lovely.

A flatwoven version in gray...

Or a plush one in blue...

And since I'm already , how about this

I'm loving the tribal meets chevron pattern in this one.

Perhaps something a bit more bohemian is necessary to counteract the modern sofa

More inspiration found while persuing flickr

I think I'm in love with this entire room

What are you looking forward to this fall?

Chelsea

  1. i'm loving the bohemian one! i've been on the search for a rug for my living room too. originally i thought i wanted something really basic and neutral in color but i'm always drawn to the old old persian rugs with lots of reds/rusts... they just scream cozy in my opinion. unfortunately for me, they are way too expensive... so we (i) settled on a cheap gray and white modern rug from ikea that dan picked out. boo.
i'm loving this cooler fall weather and hope it sticks around a while... but according to the weather channel, it wont.
enjoy the rest of your week pretty mama!

  2. I like the tribal/chevron the best :) but for you I see something a bit brighter. Maybe something like this: http://chiccritique.net/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/Moorish-Rug.jpg

  3. Kass - I agree, I like the boho version best. but those persians can be pretty expensive! maybe I'll use my super-craigslisting skills and find one! I'm pretty impatient though and I'll probably go for something at IKEA - I do love their options!

Ang - I think the chevron is my favorite too. I love the link you sent!! Would have to go for a different color though since we've got the bright orange couch ;)

Thanks for the comments you lovely ladies!!

  4. still loving the black and white ikea rug....but the grass is always greener, isn't it? I used to deal in antiques and as a result, I have a house full of oriental rugs. Now I yearn for the clean, classic lines and lighter colors of the other rugs I see on the 'net......

Isn't that how it always goes....?

  5. I love both the chevron rug (a refreshing departure from the more rigidly geometric ones that are popular)and the Oriental just below it.
